Srebrenica History Srebrenica History
Before the Bosnian war from 1992 to 1995, Srebrenica was a prosperous town with a mixed population of approximately 25,000 people which included both Serbs- Orthodox and Bosniaks- Muslims. However during the ethnic- religious war the town was the site of severe conflict, and in July 1995 the town which was a United Nations Safe Haven was taken by Serb forces. On July 11 between 7000 and 8000 civilian Muslim men and boys were killed by the Serb forces. All other Muslims were expelled from the town. Many Serb families from other parts of Bosnia were displaced to the town.Since the war over one million persons have returned to their pre-war communities in Bosnia, this is from over two million persons who were expelled or fled during the war and became refugees abroad or displaced persons within Bosnia. Supporting the return of families to their pre-war houses is a means of reversing the ethnic expulsions that were committed during the war. However, to achieve this, community rehabilitation is required and economic development. Danas Sutra enables the many female headed households to support their families and for people of different ethnicities to interact with each other. Your purchase supports all of this
